Our Trip to Kolkata
We as a family were looking forward to see India’s Iconic City of Joy - Calcutta now ‘’ Kolkata’’ and this is how we managed to see many places in 3 days and also enjoyed some local flavors in Kolkata
Day 1 – We saw the Iconic Victoria Memorial , a Marble landmark monument made in the memory of Queen Victoria -Cost Rs 20 Per Person , Then we headed to the famous Kolkata Zoo Cost Rs – 30 per person which is very close to Victoria Memorial about 2 Kms .
The Zoo has many Varieties of Birds
Many Animals too are there ,actually this Zoo will surprise you so you need atleast have 2 to 3 hours to really enjoy the Zoo fully as you need to walk a lot to see all the animals.
We also spotted Royal Bengal Tiger
Overall a fulfilling experience
Next we headed to Balwant Singh Eating House which is very popular and 100 years old food joint and tried their famous Luchi Chana Masala , Cost Rs 130 , Jalebi and their most famous Chai and Doodh Cola
Then finally we took a break at BabuGhat again not too far from Eating House about 3 kms.
Another Must Try – Kulhad Mein Chai at the Ghats. You get to see the life of Locals washing clothes there and many traditional Boats , Bridges .It is a must See Place.
We ended the Day with some delicious Kolkata Biryani at Arsalan at Park Circus . Biryani has less masala , Egg and Aloo along with Chicken ,Mutton or Vegetables whichever you choose.
And then we headed to have Sweets at One of the Oldest Place in Kolkata .
Girish Chandra Dey & Nakur Chandra is more than 100 years old , not very Hygienic but the sweets are priced at very reasonable rates and the taste is to die for!
Next Day we took it easy and explored the Hotel we stayed in – ITC Royal Bengal , ITC Royal Bengal is known for its hospitality and their service can really blow you away . They really treat you like royalty and staying there you can have an experience of a lifetime. We loved it completely from Buffet breakfast to High Tea with Cocktails all included in our Stay was impeccable.
The Rooms are very comfortable
All the rooms have Suites with Hall and Bedroom
Very Spacious Bathroom as well with Huge Bath-tubs very good décor .
Cost was Rs 8,000 per Night with Breakfast & High Tea/Cocktails all included for 2 people.
Royal Bengal has a lovely Roof top Terrace ,Swimming Pool , Gym and Spa and ITC Royal Bengal is connected to the Old ITC Sonar Bangla , if you have Kids you can enjoy a evening walk in the middle of Lotus gardens and see the Fish Pond , also feed the fish.
We tried the Koshan Mangsho – traditional Bengali Mutton in Darjeeling Lounge in ITC .Darjeeling Lounge in ITC is very famous for different Varieties of Tea, some signature dishes like Kosha Mangsho and Macher Jhol which is traditional Fish curry and Gobindobhog Rice .It is expensive but worth the money as well.
Also tried the dessert & some wine in Darjeeling Lounge. It is delicious and a Must Try
Then we headed in the evening to see Science City which is just next to ITC Royal Bengal about 1 km away.
Science City is a fun Place , They have Motion Simulator Rides like Time Machine , Mirror Maze , Musical Fountains in the evening , 5D Movies , Cable Car Rides and a lot more. If you have Kids over 5 years of age this is a Must- Visit Place. Cost Rs 60 per person for the Park , Cable Car separate Rs 60 per person..
Next we went to try some authentic dishes in Kolkata
Mustard Fish at Bhojohori Manna
Finally Next day we explored some rolls at Park Street – Kusum Rolls and the famous Place Peter Cat.
Chelo Kebabs at Peter Cat is again a Must Try dish . Plain Rice topped with Butter and egg , along with Chicken Kebabs and Mutton Kebabs . Something that will stay with you for a long time if you are a foodie and a non-vegetarian
We certainly missed one famous attraction – Eco Park and so looking forward to Visit the City of Joy Kolkata again .
