An heartwarming, inspiring, and eye-opening place that describes the whys, hows, whats, and wheres of the Indian military. The major coverage is on education of the visitors so you'd find many writeups to read, artefacts (flags, logos, medals, uniforms, etc) to see, historical records to appreciate, and lots of videos playing on TV screens to watch. It is a must go place for every Indian! Being maintained by the uniformed folks, the place is spotlessly clean, landscaping is beautiful, and all amenities are in place. The cafe offers good snacks at a reasonable price. The toilets are very clean. The lawns, statues, etc. are beautifully maintained. Read to know more about the historical battles the army fought in the various wars that India has been a part of. The help army provides during peaceful times is also well documented. Indian military's contribution to the UN peace-keeping missions is also given decent coverage. Photography is allowed so carry a good camera. I'd suggest giving this place a full day. If in a rush, do allocate at least half a day.

It's far from the Shimla city & through the forest. The view is great and the museum is very well maintained by the Army officers. It shows the history and purpose of the Indian army, loads of pictures and original items that make history more tangible.

Nestled amidst towering snow-clad mountains, deodar trees, lush-greenery and huge lawns with Annandale at its backdrop, the Army Heritage Museum is one of the astonishing museums of its kind in India. It is a hidden gem in forests and has become a famous holiday spot of Shimla tour. Positioned at an altitude of 6,117 feet above sea level, the museum is home to a collection of modern and traditional weapons, uniforms, flags, armoury and lots of other military items. One of the most sought after places to visit in Shimla, this place is dedicated to the Indian Army and has all the collectibles that take you back to 2500 BC. At this museum, you will also find the landmarks of the 1971 battle and Kargil war. The feeling of being Indian is still ALIVE here. There is no entry fee to visit the Annandale Army Heritage Museum in Shimla. It is open from 10 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm every day except on Mondays. Located at a distance of only 5 km from The Ridge in Shimla, Annandale Army Heritage Museum provides several options to reach your destination. Choose to walk on foot if you want to enjoy the wonderful landscapes around or simply look for a private vehicle. There is a local bus service available that takes you directly from Shimla Bus Stand to the museum in every one hour. You can also opt for a shared taxi, operated by HPTDC department, for the convenience for tourists. The bus stand is only 2.7 km from the museum. Other than that, those who are coming from Shimla Railway Station can enjoy the auto-rickshaw ride to reach Army Heritage Museum, as it is only 2 km away from Shimla Railway Station.

This is an amazing place you must include in your Shimla Itinerary. The Museum Narrates Story of warfare and how on many instances Indian forces have proved their excellence in it. It displays weapons, tools, uniforms. It celebrates brave heroes. The place make you feel amazed as well as proud. It does have beautiful garden landscape, a glass house and children play area. You easily spend good 2-3 hrs here.

We walked till this places through jungle route. Although it was long route of around 4.5 km. But it was enjoyable to see nature. This Museum itself is beautiful and well maintained. Not very big. It opens only at specific time. Please check before you leave.
