The Botanical Garden in Pondicherry is a landmark site on the map of the city in terms of its great recreational and educational value. The entrance to the garden bears the nostalgia of the French colony that was set up here during 1816. The garden stands out from its surroundings in terms of its location. It is situated right in the middle of old Tamil Nadu town. The garden was established in 1826 in a very authentic and ornate French style. Right from the architecture to arrangement of trees and materials used to deck up the garden, all bear the deep reflections of French culture.Pruned flower beds, well arranged tall columns of trees, fountains and gravel lined paths are some of the essential features of the Botanical Garden in Pondicherry which is spread over a sprawling 22 acres of land. In this garden, you will witness more than 1500 species of trees of both native and international origins. All plants and trees carry their respective placards containing information such as name, origin, medicinal value and the amount of oxygen created by that particular tree among such things. Many plants and trees are often used from this botanical garden in various research to manufacture medicine. The Pondicherry Botanical Garden qualifies as one of the best botanical gardens of south India

More than a botanical garden with several plant varieties, it was more of a garden - not sure if this was because of season in January or otherwise. If you are looking for a green space, do visit but if you are a plant lover, may not make sense. There is a joy train ride for kids to enjoy and does have nice pagodas for a picnic/eating snacks. Would NOT recommend as a must visit in Pondi.

Really calm serene place to visit with family and friends. Just full of lush green trees all around with few monkeys jumping around... Has a small joy train to go around the park and also has few kids play area. Think there s a aquarium too (not sure now)..

Beautifully maintained and a lot of photography opportunities for couples and lovers. One portion is occupied by the lovers and the other side families can enjoy. To visit the aquarium you have to pay and that doesn't worth the money. Train journey seems fine as the children will like it. There is no parking fee, which is again a good thing. If you want to spend a half day in the shades its a nice place to consider. There was no covid precautions at entrance.

Sad state of maintenance. It's a shame. Wonder if the government has any benchmark standards at all.... There's also an ill kept aquarium inside, which ironically is the best.... Rose garden contained no roses. Lotus pond was filthy and contained no lotuses. Musical fountain had no water and contained a maze of corroded and rusted pipes.... Ok, then there is a 20 buck entry fee to get inside the botanical garden and 10 bucks to get into the aquarium. Make sure you all for the tickets else, they don't give you (probably pocket the money)....

A popular tourist attraction of Pondicherry, Botanical Garden was established by C.S. Perrotet in the year 1862. The garden is home to several exotic varieties of rare plants as well as an aquarium. This wide range of plants has been collected from various parts of India and around the globe. Aquarium is an interesting place to visit which abodes diverse collection of aquatic organisms as well as fish flora.
