It is the finest dome ever built in France and its 107-metre-high lantern was re-gilded in 1989 for the bicentenary of the French Revolution. Twelve kilos were needed for this operation. From the outside, you can admire the facade with its two arrangements (Doric and Corinthian) of architecture.

It was an honour to visit the resting place of Napoleon Bonaparte, the brilliant military general and the grand emperor whom I always admired since my youth. In this one complex, one can visit Napoleon's Tomb, St. Louis Cathedral and the Army Museum. The architecture of the whole complex is absolutely wonderful, worthy of being the last resting place of Napoleon. Paintings on the walls, frescos, statues and carving.... all are worth a second look. You would need lot of time to see the whole complex in detail, perhaps half a day at least. The lawns outside are also worth a visit. Not a place to be missed when in Paris.

Do not miss the outstanding 3-screen video art installation of WWII -- best I've ever seen; captures the reality of what war is really like beyond the pretty monuments after the fact. Super cool artifacts and antiques in the display cases among the usual guns n ammo stuff. Docking a star since women are invisible in the history telling.

After nearly 200 years of his death, Napoleon is still a living legend here in France. The streets, the "gare" (train station), etc all are named after battles. His initials can be found in public buildings, bridges and even churches.... So, his tomb complex couldn't be less spectacular. Highly recommended... For the photography freaks, I strongly suggest the early or late hours so you can work your way though the different aperture zones...

Worth seeing . Found the wars exhibition harrowing . All those poor boys being sacrificed. I wish war museums actually do point out the futility and tragedy that is war. On a lighter note Napoleon's exhibits including his tomb made me laugh! There was France the great Republic who guillotined their rulers ... And enter Napoleon who is called Emperor!! With a statue showing him dressed in a toga with laurel leaves. But emperor as opposed to king may be acceptable to Le Republic. To add to Napoleon's greatness his tomb was HUGE. Enjoy.

Napoleon's tomb feels bitter. But he is buried with his beloved people around his grave. This also raises the question of how good he was in his lifetime. The little giant Napoleon always gives me great courage.
