The Palais-Royal traces its history to a small private theatre in the residence of Cardinal Richelieu. Designed by architect Jacques Lemercier, this theatre became known by the name of the residence, the Palais-Cardinal; it was the first theatre in France with movable scenery wings and a permanent proscenium arch.

Amazingly ornate theatre. Lovely spaces to walk around an unexpected treat. The Chagall Ceiling in the auditorium is stunning

I went to see the theatre show called Edmond. I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the inside of the theatre is. On the other side the sitting system needs to be mentioned. I noticed there were quite some sits where the sit opens up physically which means that these sits are less comfortable. Another thing is that there are a lot of sits that only allow partial view of the stage. Advice : have 1-2eur coin ready to pass it to the person helping you to the sit, it is a custom in this theatre to do so (I guess it is the same in all other theaters where a person helps you get o your sit.
