Jardin des Plantes, officially Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, English Botanical Garden, or National Museum of Natural History, one of the world's foremost botanical gardens, located in Paris. It was founded in 1626 as a royal garden of medicinal plants and was first opened to the public in 1650. A nature retreat in the centre of Paris, a botanical garden at the cutting edge of research, and a living testimony to history, the Jardin des Plantes is a 400-year-old garden of science. Its mission is to gather and study plant collections and to welcome the public. Thanks to its plant and flower beds, remarkable trees, statues and pathways, it offers visitors a diverse, well-tended stroll, with mysterious surprises at every turn! Amble at leisure over 2.5 hectares of French Gardens, follow a guide through the world’s mountainous regions, take a botany workshop, discover remarkable historic trees such as our 315-year-old pistachio tree, and generally enjoy an aesthetic, sensory-rich experience. In this green setting, cultural sites dedicated to nature and showcasing the Museum's exceptional heritage collections can be discovered at the bend of the paths: Historical galleries (museums) that present the issues of biodiversity and geodiversity (the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution, the Galerie de Paléontologie et d'Anatomie comparée and the Galerie de Minéralogie et de Géologie); the Ménagerie, the Jardin des Plantes zoo; the Grandes Serres, which host the tropics in Paris.

A botanical garden (free entry), including an alpine space, imitating mountains, with real alpine plants + the oldest zoo in Paris (additional fee), worth visiting + an excellent merry-go-round (additional fee) + museum of natural history with representations of different ecosystems, stuffed animals, skeletons, a special space for kids, etc. (also for an additional fee, worth visiting). An excellent place for kids an adults. Unfortunately, closes early, especially in winter, so I suggest having a look at their site and the working hours if you wish to go there in the afternoon...

A nice garden with interesting plants, but minimal variety compared to certain other arboretums. However it includes a small zoo of sorts, and a splendid museum of natural history. Note the invasion of wild parrots all throughout the trees; they have been decimating native birds throughout the greater Paris area for over a decade (is it climate change??)

Excellent garden and a very beautiful area. The are is very convenient for a walk and even for jogging. The gardens are very beautiful and many families take their kids for a walk. There is a restaurant and you can also have a snack and many drinks. The plants are very nice and if you would like to access the interior gardens you would need to buy tickets. We enjoyed this walk and we strongly recommend the visit.

Great place, with nice gardens and plants, quite small botanical garden compared to others. But always enjoy taking photos at a place like this. Recommend for photographers and travellers.

There's a lot of see in this garden, so much so that the word "garden" doesn't quite describe it. There is a zoo, museum and different exhibitions. In the winter they have a fantastic light display (the theme changes every year). Even in the winter there are a lot to see.
