A former hunting ground for the Kings of France, the Bois de Boulogne has become the largest spot for relaxation in the west of Paris. With a surface area of 850 hectares, one of the ‘lungs’ of the capital encompasses the Parc de Bagatelle, the Jardin des Serres d'Auteuil, the Pré-Catelan and the Jardin d'Acclimatation. It offers numerous walkways, 28 km of bridleways and 15 km of touristic cycle routes. There are numerous facilities, which have been designed to suit everyone, such as playgrounds for children, the Musée en Herbe, picnic areas, bicycle hire and boat hire on the Lac Inférieur, the Auteuil and Longchamp racecourses, restaurants and the Théâtre de Verdure.

Nice bit of semi-landscaped countryside on the outskirts of Paris to take a walk and go cycling or running. It is heavily polluted during weekdays, being flooded with large roads and heavy peak hour traffic, but the roads are closed to motor vehicles on weekends which allows for a much more pleasant experience. Plenty to do and discover on sunny days too, with multiple lakes and water streams and even a small waterfall towards the Longchamp racecourse, as well as paddle boat rentals on the larger lakes :).

Great running trails and a free weekly 5k. There is some seedy stuff in parts of the park that continue to baffle me and women should be careful here alone unfortunately. The lake and cafe nearby are great relaxers.

The Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes represent 1,800 hectares of forest west and east of Paris. Green lungs of the city, they are the source of stories, curiosities, walks, and activities. They welcome spontaneous and diverse flora and fauna and are home to three prestigious sites of the Paris Botanical Garden. You can walk in the Bois de Boulogne while discovering the history of the place and its ecological riches. You will find this information on the 16 step panels arranged in the wood, to download in the "Links and download" section below on this page.

The Louis Vuitton Foundation is brilliant. An amazing building with great shows and lighting. Spent 1.5 hr towards the later part of day. Need at least 3 hrs to see it properly and another 2 hours to explore the grounds around it. The Frank Gehry building represents a boat with multiple sail. A marvel to visit. A must in Paris

Nice and quiet park at the west edge of Paris. Some roads are closed to traffic, which makes it very convenient for walking, biking or rollerblading.
