Apart from tropical weather and beaches, Mauritius is also known for another intriguing aspect, Horse Riding. Champ de Mars Racecourse is the second oldest racecourse in the entire world and has managed to maintain its fame since the colonial era and also called one of the best Mauritius tourist places. Built back in the 1800s, this racecourse has witnessed all the major historic moments of the country, including the independence of Mauritius in the year of 1968. Prior to converting to a racecourse and independence, the Frenchmen used the racecourse as their training area for the military. For those who are fascinated by horse riding can travel to this destination anytime between April to November. This is when the racing season takes place in Champ de Mars Racecourse.

Champ de Mars is situated in the heart of the city centre Port Louis. Each Saturday during season of horse racing people gather there to watch it and even to gamble. Everybody is allowed to bet as from the age of 18 otherwise it's restricted. Some come out as big winners otherwise best losers. Nevertheless, gamblers like to participate and make it a must.

Awesome day at the races with local snacks aplenty and racecourse junk on sale. The racing events are great in the sense that one can easily see the whole track if you buy your way into the viewing balconies. Or, just enjoy the atmosphere on the ground and you can still see the horses if you come near the barriers.

Really need a good racecourse for the future, the horses would have more problem with these conditions. The authority should look at it.

I was born not very far.Champ De Mars turned out to be my Playground as I grew up, spending countless hours covering every blade of grass and tarmac of this "GREAT CIRCUIT". Jogging.Cycling.Playing Football, Volleyball, Basketball.Watching Horse Training in the early hours during Racing seasons. In the evening on hot nights it was and still an attraction for cool air/breeze from its Gorgeous, surrounding Moutains and Hills. Champ de Mars is Home for The Mauritius Turf Club.A very able, efficient Organization looking after the Horse Racing side of it to the very latest in technology. It is known that Mauritius was the oldest in the Southern hemisphere of the Indian Ocean to take up Horse Racing and continues up this day.An immaculate racing track lies before one's eye.CdM for me is Unique,to be cherished and fond memories abound.. So Enjoy the Vista when in Mauritius. More to follow?????
