Our ancestors arrival point. Chinese, Indian And African people were 'parked' there, i'm not using the word accomodated because at this time they were not considered as 'guests' they were rather 'almost machines at the customs' ready to be collected to work across the island for rich land owners. At the Aapravasi Ghat their memories will stay long and Mauritians should never forget the painful history behind.

If you are looking to discover and learn about the history of Mauritius, Aapravasi Ghat is a must place to visit while visiting Port Louis! The museum is very nicely staged and you have interactive elements available during your tour, which will make it interesting for younger crowd as well. There is a very good reason why Aapravasi Ghat is selected on the list of Unesco World Heritage Sites, don't miss out on this jewel of Port Louis! And the best part, it's completely free to visit this site and they also do guided tours on regular basis.

This is in Port Louis in Mauritius. Something for you to see if you have time in Mauritius. Where modern meets local not modern. A historical site. Which you can find details on Google. I’ve sent pictures of old buildings and the new complex. Lots of restaurants and markets stalls The modern part is near the port The old surrounds it

Well worth a visit to old buildings at the top, but more importantly, the interpretation centre below. It is a well laid-out museum, detailing the indenture labour system, which set in during late 1800’s. It gives a sense of how Mauritius became the island it is today.
