This ancient Buddhist monastery with Pagoda-styled structure is among the major Manali tourist places. Its fascinating Tibetan style architecture is worth admiring. The elements that make this temple so popular are the massive, two-storey-tall statue of Lord Buddha and eye-catching wall paintings it houses. Visit this temple for the serenity and positivity that fills this place. A visit to this place is incomplete without a few minutes of meditation to take a peek into the life of Buddhist monks. Located amidst the bustling Mall road of Manali, the quietness of this Monastery is in sharp contrast with what lies outside its premises.

This temple, containing a two-storey statue of the historical Buddha, was built in 1957. The land was donated to commemorate the death of the Wazir of Lahaul's son, who died while serving with the UN in Laos. Like many other Tibetan Buddhist temples/ monasteries, the pagoda of the Himalayan Nyinmapa Buddhist Temple is also painted a bright shade of yellow. Do notice the Buddhist deer symbol along with the Dharma wheel on roof of Himalaya Nyinmapa Buddhist Temple. The entrance of the main shrine is colorful with lots of Buddhist symbolic flat murals and dragon sculptures. Buddhist temples usually have outer gates and inner gates protected by statues or paintings of beasts, fierce gods and / or warriors that ward off evil spirits The principle colors in Buddhism are blue, black, white, red, green, and yellow, and each color except for black are aligned to a specific Buddha. The combination of these five colors symbolizes that it is the one and only Truth. These colors each signify a virtue and a character. The main color concept that exists in Buddhism is that of the rainbow body which is considered the “penultimate transitional state of meditation in which matter begins to be transformed into pure light.”

It is a peaceful place amidst the chaos of market. The main building has beautiful idols, it is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels. There is photography fee of ₹20 for clicking pictures inside. Inside the monastery it is very quiet and calm environment. There is also a big prayer wheel and a garden. Good thing is that you can visit this while visiting mall road, no extra trip is needed.
