St. Paul's Cathedral is a Church of North India (CNI) cathedral of Anglican background in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, noted for its Gothic architecture and dedicated to Paul the Apostle. It is the seat of the Diocese of Calcutta. The cornerstone was laid in 1839; the building was completed in 1847. It is said to be the largest church in Kolkata and the first Anglican cathedral in Asia. It was also the first new-built cathedral in the overseas territory of the British Empire. The edifice stands on Cathedral Road on the "island of attractions" to provide for more space for the growing population of the European community in Calcutta in the 1800s. The architectural design of the cathedral is "Indo-Gothic", a Gothic architectural style designed to meet the climate of India. Following the 1897 earthquake and the subsequent massive earthquake of 1934, when Calcutta suffered substantial damage, the cathedral was reconstructed to a revised design. The cathedral complex has a library, situated over the western porch, and a display of plastic art forms and memorabilia.

This is a very sacred place for Christians and a loved visiting spot for locals and tourists alike. It's reminiscent of the Gothic churches of Europe and gives off a peaceful and serene aura. The cathedral is quite large in proportions. The entry to the cathedral area is through a one way road which is connected by a round about which is near the Birla Planetarium. There is no space for parking as it's running traffic road though you'll find plenty of taxis passing by. Photography is prohibited inside the cathedral.

One must visit the church. It has a Gothic touch in the walls, roof. Photography is prohibited within the church. Outside all can take photos. Here, you get a additional advantage as it is situated near Victoria memorial Hall and Nandan, two other tourist attraction you can go here easily by walking. If you are travelling with your own car, you can park your car in the parking plot.

If you really want some time away from the hustle and bustle of Kolkata and spend a few moments in quiet and peace, this church will be your new favorite getaway. Adorned with beautiful greenery, this is a pretty iconic church in its architecture. You are not allowed to use your cellphone inside the church. And sitting inside this church will definitely remind you what peace and solitude feels like. You can attend the evening prayers here. And this church is an absolute delight during Christmas (however, it does get crowded during this time of the year).

One of the finest looking churches in India, the St. Paul Cathedral is definitely a must see in Kolkata. Located on what is known ‘the island of attractions’, the church is done in Gothic Revival Style and has gorgeous arched windows with stained glass which makes quite a sight to see when the sun rays touch them. The frescoes inside the church are also noteworthy, one of the best times to visit the church is during the midnight mass on Christmas Eve when the church is lit up and proves to be the most amazing thing you can feast your eyes on.

A very beautiful and peaceful place to spend your day alone or with family or friends. I personally loved this place. I have been there many times. It's one of the "Must-visit" place of Kolkata. This architecture is always under protection and it's well looked after by the Government. The inside view of this place is really amazing and beautiful. I really love this place.
