The stadium covers an area of 76.40 acres (309,200 m2). It was inaugurated in January 1984, with the Jawaharlal Nehru International Gold Cup Soccer Tournament. The Salt Lake Stadium has since hosted several important international tournaments or matches such as The Pre-World Cup Tournament in 1985, Super-Soccers in 1986, 1989, 1991 and 1994, 3rd S.A.F. games in 1987, USSR Festival in 1988, Charminar Challenger Trophy in 1992, and Jawaharlal Nehru International Gold Cup in 1995. The stadium witnessed a FIFA friendly match between Argentina and Venezuela in 2011. It also hosted Oliver Kahn's official farewell match for Bayern Munich when they played a friendly against Mohun Bagan. The Salt Lake Stadium hosts the home games of the local clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal who play in the I-League, and Mohammedan S.C., who currently play in the I-League 2nd Division. It was also ISL franchise Atletico de Kolkata's home ground in the first two seasons.

Wonderful football ground stadium. The capacity of the stadium more about 85000 .It is biggest stadium in India. After renovation the stadium has great look just beautiful. Presently Durand Cup tournament is going on. Gallery condition is very good. Drainage system is also good. Heavy rain also don't effect on the ground. Maintenance also good.

great place to enjoy sports. Awesome atmosphere. Asia's Biggest Football Stadium . A huge stadium. The great iconic stadium. very energetic atmosphere. Everyone is always enjoying, shouting and in the thick of the game. Really enjoy going here with friends.

Amazing experience!!! I stay very close to this stadium and whenever there was a match, the whole atmosphere would be electrified. But when I went to watch a match between the two Local Club teams I could understand why. The fans go mad here. They enjoy the match to the fullest. The stadium is newly built and has comfortable chairs.

The great iconic stadium. The biggest stadium of India and once in the world with a seating capacity of 86000+ now. But water crisis is such a big problem. Except mobile phone and wallet nothing is allowed.this is a serious issue.please make a counter for keeping things. Except this it's fabulous.love it ♥️♥️

The great iconic stadium. Biggest football stadium in India with seating capacity about 90000. For seating plastic bucket chair are there. Great experience during any match. Only problem on matchday nothing is allowed inside stadium other than wallet and mobile. There should be a proper counter to keep the bags.
