The place will make you feel nostalgic about Calcutta and will help you to rediscover your roots. You will find posters of evergreen Bengali films and household items that you don't come across now. Screens will show you audio visuals on the touch of a button that will make the experience even more unforgettable. Archaeological Survey of India has done a great job in renovating and maintaining the place. This is one place I will surely recommend to anyone who wants to go on a tour of Kolkata. Entry is free but I would suggest a nominal entry fee would be helpful to get the funds required to maintain this lovely place.

Located at the crossing of Hare street and strand road, it is currently housing " Ami Kolkata" exhibition which captures the true essence and living culture of the city. This place is highly recommended to understand the city better. Metcalf Hall remains open Tuesday to Sunday , 10 am to 5 pm . Entry is free and photography is allowed.

The exclusive Heritage Building with long Gothic Pillars at the crossing of Strand Road and Hare Street was opened to the public in 1844. Metcalfe Hall, 12 Strand Road stands just opposite to Millenium Park is an exclusive example of Colonial period British Neoclassical Architecture. The river facing building construction started in 1840 under the design of city magistrate, C.K. Robinson and named after Sir Charles T. Metcalfe, the Governor-General of India, for his efforts of a free press. The building was also used by Indian Museum, Archaeological Survey of India (Sales Counter) and Asiatic Society

Just across Millenium Park, it's a pretty sweet place for bong couples as well as intellectuals to cherish Calcutta's past. And it's free, it's awesomely maintained, doesn't attract much crowd. Overall it's a niche place and if you're bored at home, must go check it out for once.
