The Great Banyan tree is believed to be at least 250 years old, and has been referenced in many travel books, going back to at least the nineteenth century. Early travel writers found it to be noteworthy due to its large size and its unusually high number of prop-trunks. It has survived two great cyclones in 1864 and 1867, when some of its main branches were broken. With its large number of aerial roots, which grow from the branches and run vertically to the ground, The Great Banyan is said to appear more like a dense forest than as an individual tree.

Good place for those who are interested in biological trees and nature.Famous for its world biggest banyan tree. It has every variety of flora and fauna in it. Best picnic destination. Best view and feel of nature. Ideal place for botany students. Easiest mode of transport from bichali ghat is by steamer. It has many rare breed of plants and trees which are impossible to find anywhere.

Great place to experience nature and it's aesthetics. And the special attraction, Great Banyan Tree is truly a wonder. Just one issue, it would be good if they could provide maps or some guide otherwise it's difficult to decipher the locations of specific places. All the direction signs and boards have become old and illegible, therefore we have ask everyone around about the specific locations. Otherwise a good place.

The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden commonly known as Botanical Garden is a well maintained nature park situated at Shibpur, Howrah. It is the heaven for the nature lovers, students, scientists and researchers related to plants and ecosystems. It is also a very good picnic spot. Very recently the Government has taken strict measures to keep this iconic place free of plastics and litters. Thumbs up to this attempt and hope it will be maintained forever.

Great place. Nature's paradise and photographer's delight. But maintenance needs to be better. The directions are not visible. At least one cafeteria or arrangements for good drinking water is required to spend the whole day. Otherwise somebody at the entrance should advise to carry water from outside. Otherwise it's a beautiful place.
