This private museum has an intriguing assortment of Jaisalmer artefacts, from turbans, musical instruments, fossils and kitchen equipment, to displays on birth, marriage, death and opium customs. It’s brought alive by the guided tour you’ll get from its founder, local historian and folklorist LN Khatri. Look for the snakes and ladders game that acts as a teaching guide to Hinduism’s spiritual journey. If the door is locked you’ll find Mr Khatri at his shop, Desert Handicrafts Emporium, on Court Rd.

The museum truly captures the essence of Jaisalmer culture and covers some very interesting facts from a very long time. The owner himself guides throughout the museum and is very good at explaining in detail. But, the highlight is the whole collection was collected by the owner himself from 30 years It's a must visit, especially for people with a keen interest in history

Amazing tour around the heritage museum. For 100 rupees you get shown around by the owner of the museum who's been assembling it over the course of 30 years. He has a story behind every single item in there and will answer any question you can throw it him. As well as genuinely being an extremely friendly fellow!

Though it's small and a little out-of-the-way (note that it moved a bit further from the city centre in 2019 so it may not be where your guidebook says it is), this is an excellent little museum. The owner/curator will probably take you round in person, and he is very knowledgable, bringing all the objects alive and answering questions abiut them and wider matters of local life. He's also written a very good little book on Jaisalmer and life in the surrounding area available at the museum or the Fort museum ticket counter.

Thar Heritage Museum is situated near Malka Pol, Jaisalmer. Highly recommended to visit this place while in your jaisalmer tour! This is a private collection of Shri Laxmi Narayan Khatri. Collection includes Fossils, Armour, Door locks, Different types of folk music instruments, Traditional kitchen utensils, Costumes and opium extraction instruments etc.
