The jaisalmer fort is the only living fort in the world. The 800 year old fort has a lot of people still living in it. The fort is made of yellow sandstone which is why its yellow/golden in color which gives it the name golden palace or swarn quila. The fort has alot of shops inside it but they are too expensive for the quality of products sold. The fort was built by Maharaja Rawal Jaisal. You can witness the beauty of the golden city from top of the fort. The fort also has jain temples and other historical buildings as well.

Good touristy place though not sure if the audio tour is worth the price. The fort palace is the real showbiz of the Jaisalmer Fort. You have an entry charge of Rs. 100 (Rs. 500 if you want entry with an audio tour) and additional Rs. 150 for any sort of camera if you plan to use it. I think the charges are steep for any Indian monument/palace, perhaps apt for foreigners. I think there stands an opportunity for differential pricing here. You get personal guides willing to show the area for Rs. 200. Coming to the place, it is a small but beautiful palace with great views of the city. They have tried to depict different facets of royal life in palace. The tour is well designed with smooth transition from one facet to another.

this is a really good fort at the top of the hill. the view is brilliant and there are some interesting places inside like a museum. It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world. nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort.

Located amidst the golden sands of the Thar Desert, the Jaisalmer Fort was built by the Bhati Rajput King Rawal Jaisal. It remained an important trade center during the medieval era before the popularity of maritime trade centers such as Bombay and Calcutta. Today, it is one of the important tourist centers in Rajasthan known for its exquisite Rajput Architecture and scenic beauty.

One of the best historical places in Jaisalmer. Beautiful, attractive and old City market is inside the fort. Buy or visit on your choice.
