The fort was constructed in 1612 to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim, at the shore of the Mandovi River. It was initially tasked with defense of shipping and the nearby Bardez sub-district. A freshwater spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that used to stop by. This is how the fort got its name: Aguada, meaning watery in the Portuguese language. Crews of passing ships would often visit to replenish their freshwater stores. On the fort stands a four-story Portuguese lighthouse, erected in 1864 and the oldest of its kind in Asia

The place is very clean and peaceful. The view is amazing. Public entrance is prohibited in light house. This place is great tourist attraction but you will find more Indians than foreigners. A must visit place with family. If you are traveling with your friends and have a tight schedule then you can skip this place for sure. The parking is easily available for two wheelers , i am not sure for four wheelers.

It's a good place with scenic view. It's at the top so you can see full sea view. Cool breeze. It's closing time is 5:30 pm so go before this time. Otherwise you will not get sufficient time to stay at this place. It's has entry fee and parking fee. You can also go nearby Lighthouse. It's also good.

It is one of the most famous tourist spot in Goa. There are many good view can be seen from this fort. It is a bit far from the main city and doesn't have any good food and beverages option nearby. Further, the fort infrastructure is good only and doesn't have very good facilities such as washroom etc easily available.
