Guru Dongmar is a lake at a height of 18,000 feet alongside a glacial peak known by the same name. The lake remains frozen most of the year due to heavy snowfall for almost six months each year. The lake fed by glaciers is located to the north of the Kanchenjunga range in a high plateau area connected with the Tibetan Plateau. The lake provides one of the source streams which joins the Tso Lahmu and then form the source of Teesta River. China is 5 km (3.1 mi) to the border on the east. The lake has an area of 118 hectares (290 acres) and its peripheral length is 5.34 kilometres (3.32 mi). However, the size of the lake appears small at the place where the Sikhs gather. The larger part of the lake is not visible due to hilly topography obstructing the complete view at this location. The area surrounding the lake, also known as Gurudongmar, is inhabited by Yaks, blue sheep and other wildlife of high altitude. This fresh-water lake, which once used to have very clear water, with even the bed of the lake being visible from the surface, now appears in white colour on account of local pollution.

Place is awesome without any doubt. I gave 4 star because it is too high and breathing problems will be there. People often say about the lake when they talk about Gurudongmar but Mountains here is awesome. You will feel snow layered mountains at your level.

Heaven on earth... I went there 2 times on my Yamaha Gladiator (125cc)... If you make a promise when you visit the lake and the temple, make sure you keep it. If you break the promise, you life will turn upside-down.

If you are in north Sikkim and reminded of Pangyong lake ,this place will calm and ease your mind. The route of the lake is far far more beautiful than the lake itself. Prepare yourself well before taking this ride: adapt to the altitude. If you don't have time take a tab . Do not exert yourself , this is not a place for that dreamy walk that you imagine to be. If the altitude hits you , go the army camp for oxygen support and you will be fine. Saw many people smoking heavy before climbing up and then having crazy headache. Have your smoke after the trip if possible and avoid alcohol. It is going to be cold but other than photos, find a moment to sit and enjoy the view as it is rare and exclusive .

If you wanna visit ladakh but don't have a lot of time to spend, visit this place, you will have the best time sent.

The december view is mind boggling. You won't regret it. But keep in mind the cold is very chilling. Heavy winter clothing is must.
