Enchey Monastery is approximately 200 years old and is located 3 km northeast of Gangtok. It belongs to the Nyingma order of Vajrayana Buddhism. The location was blessed by Lama Drupthob Karpo, a renowned exponent of tantric art adept in Buddhism with flying powers. It is believed that initially a small Gompa was established by him after which he flew from Maenam Hill in South Sikkim to this site. The literal meaning of ‘Enchey Monastery’ is ‘the solitary temple’. It is also said that the Monk built a small hermitage at the site of the monastery, after he came here flying from Maenam Hill in South Sikkim.

A devine and peaceful place with lots of religious and spiritual sentiment attached to it. Please as a tourist be mindful of it. For you it maybe a tourist point but for general populace here it is a place for worship.so keep noise down and be respectful of the surroundings

Beautiful vibrant monastery which looks fresh with the blue sky in background. It is located in city but is well away from traffic. A nice place to visit, inside of monastery is very calm and serene. It has a nice plaza on all sides surrounding with small structures designed in Buddhist architecture style.

At the top of the hill.. Serene.. The hike up there also is pretty good. It's a steep winding road through the forest

When you visit this Monastery in the morning, it is very relieving with smell of insane.. The air is cold and fresh which refreshes you and brings you the peace of mind. Enchey Monastery is also considered as Wish fulfilling. If you're in Gangtok then you must visit it.
