Description
Heritage property, organic garden (in process) , gigpad, cultural hub, art and exhibition centre or simply a place to hang out with friends and local alterns “Ballu” gets its name, from the matriarch who lived here generations ago, she was called ‘Balu’ because of her large nose ring which is called ‘bali’ in hindi and in the local language and thus the place got it’s name from it’s first resident. The Ballu was built in 1903, amid large expanses of fields, streams and forested land. There are views of the Dhauladhar range, and a stream runs 20 feet away from the house. We are a work in progress, the work is currently on to restore the property, design interiors and start organic farming to try and get “off the grid” by the next decade. At the moment, we’re also looking for help with business plan development, financing, website creation and design, and organic gardening. Call/email us to visit or any other queries. We’re open through the year.

Gosh I love this place so much! I have visited Ballu twice, and on both occasions I have had a great great time! Why am I in love with Ballu? It’s because of its serene location, quaint architecture, and its abounding wildflowers that grow even though randomly, but add a wholesome loveliness to this already lovely place. Of course I cannot miss to talk about the hosts, Abhishek and Jean. Very down-to-earth and soft-spoken people. They’ll make you feel at home, and it was through them that I got to know some of their friends who were very interesting people. Just pack your bags and leave yo! You're bound to have a great time at Ballu!

If you’re a luxury seeking traveler who has non-negotiable fancy needs, this isn’t the place for you. If you’re peace-seeking people looking to experience something you won’t forget in a hurry, you’ll find a warm home, a caring host, delicious food, friendly lodgers, doggos, cattos and all manner of birds, bees, butterflies and flowers in a serene, soothing environment in the lap of nature. Did I mention the river that flows right beside it? And the numerous streams whose gentle hum becomes a calming sound with the chirps and hums from all around. Abhishek’s homestay has been my home in the Himalayas for half a decade now, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The days spent here are memories forever etched in my heart and mind. The people I’ve met, the conversations I’ve had and the peace I’ve felt are going to stay with me forever. Please come here to live like you would at your own home. There are facilities now, like washing machine, broadband, etc but what you will treasure are things like a wonderful cook who dotes on you, a host who has been in Dharamshala for decades and has so much to share, and serenity that you won’t know how you’ll ever live without, back in your lives wherever you come from. It is Abhishek’s home. Make it your home too! Peace out!

The ballu homestay is the best homestay nearby dharmshala. The location is serene and the owner is so friendly with a heart of gold. You'll be like you are in the middle of nowhere in an old himachali house. Love the place. Will visit again for sure.
