The Triumphal Arch serves as the dramatic centerpiece of the Parc du Cinquantenaire. The arch was commissioned by King Leopold II in 1880 to commemorate Belgium's independence for a national exhibition. The Top of the arch features a statue of a chariot pulled by four horses.

The arch is a beautiful structure. I went to see it because of a postcard I had. I loved it but I was saddened to see a parking lot right in front of the arch. There is a park which is an ideal place to spend an afternoon or go for a short run.

The Arcades du Cinquantenaire is a triumphal arch in Parc du Cinquantenaire. Like most triumphal arcs, the arch is topped with a quadriga, in this case with a woman charioteer representing the Brabant. The province where Brussels is located. Extending from each side of the arch are colonnades decorated with mosaics. Arcades du Cinquantenaire is a major landmark of Brussels and definitely worth visiting when in the city.

This arch at the center of the Parc du Cinquantenaire was really impressive. They look great behind the open green area decorated with a couple of flower beds. They also have cool statues next to the arches, and the sides of the arch structure eventually become the surrounding museums. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are going to relax in the park on a summer afternoon.

One of my favorite places in Brussels. Perfect to enjoy a sunny afternoon. Watching the sunset below the arch is wonderful.
