Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen is a royal wat ('temple') located in Phasi Charoen district, Bangkok, at the Chao Phraya River. It is part of the Maha Nikaya fraternity and is the origin of the Dhammakaya tradition. It is a large and popular temple, supported by prosperous community members. Wat Paknam was established in 1610, during the Ayutthaya period, and received support from Thai kings until the late nineteenth century. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the temple had become nearly abandoned and had fallen into disrepair. The temple underwent a major revival and became widely known under the leadership of the meditation master Luang Pu Sodh Candasaro, who was abbot there in the first half of the twentieth century.

Too popular for its emerald glass pagoda, however, the place can offer so much more from calm meditating area to museum with full of treasure. The place is quite large with pagoda, temples, and gardens. Inside five story pagoda are full of artifacts and Buddhism artifacts. Most tourists visit only pagoda but temples in next buildings are also beautiful and recommended to visit. The offerings are available with donations, you might witness blessing by monks to Thai people. The place is located away from public transportation but quite a few taxis drive by so you don’t need to worry about transportation to get back.

This temple is a beautiful place with constant development. People believe in Buddhism to make a lot of merits. The access is easy and convenient. There is a parking building, but during the important merit-making event, there are a lot of people. Visiting may be difficult.

A popular and famous temple known for its meditation teachings. Public are welcome to the meditation hall towards the evenings. The temple is easily accessed by song Taew, taxi and boat. The bus terminal is a five minute walk away in you are coming by bus. Secured car park is available closer to the temple As of end of 2019 the Jedi is finished and the big Buddha is under construction.

I always come here for making merit. I feel peaceful here. There is a museum in a pagoda displaying the belongings of the famous former abbot named Lung Por Sod. Plenty of nice Buddha statues and other things. Lately I saw a lots of tourists coming here also most of them are Japanese.

A very traditional Thai Buddhist temple with an interesting museum. I was there with my mom to make merits but noticed a stream of Japanese tourists. At the time they are working on the large Buddha statue outside. The wat also has Japanese signage. Pretty interesting.
