Bangkok Folk Museum, or Bangkokian Museum, is a museum in Bangkok, Thailand. It is at house number 273 on Soi Charoen Krung 43, near the Sri Rat Expressway, several hundred metres from the left bank of the Chao Phraya River. The museum consists of two main two-storey buildings and a garden. In an upstairs room of the first, are the family quarters. Here are displays of many of the possessions of original family members. These include the old Benjarong jar made from Thai porcelain in five basic colors, from the King Rama V period (1858 – 1910).[2] The second building in the Bangkok Folk Museum is at the rear and was once intended to be the home and clinic of Dr. Francis Christian, the stepfather of the owner. Christian died before he could move in. On display are his cigar collection, and various stoves dating back to the early-20th century.[2] One display has an old Bangkokian kitchen from the war period. Another room displays sanitation and toilet facilities during the war and has two toilets standing next to each other.

Of all the museums in Bangkok I've never received such a warm welcome as with this place. Each of the three caretakers of the three houses wanted to take my photo (for tourism purposes) and explain a little of the history and contents of the house. In one of the buildings there are some interesting photos of what Bangkok looked like before the modern age of high rise buildings. The museum is free to visit, you just register your name and country at the entrance.

My new favourite place in one of my favourite cities. When we visited we had the place almost to ourselves and could explore the three buildings at our leisure. The main house is beautiful and to wander its perfectly polished floors is to step back to a simpler and more elegant time. It felt like the family had just popped out and would return at any minute to eat dinner or listen to records. Entry is free and the museum is not too far from the Si Phraya express boat pier, so I recommend arriving via the river for an even more enjoyable afternoon.

Visited on 13/10/2919 after church service, and loved the place! Felt like being in my own grandmother's house of the 1940s; feeling's different from seeing mere photos on the net. Glad the owner & family preserved memories of heritage and culture; a come-to-life family reunion at the garden would've completed my visit! Staff were very accommodating too. :-)

Meet this when I was wandering around to see how Thai's life. Look like the other SEA old place. However, I think it will be interesting for Western people.
