Its the center of attraction both during Day and Night. Must visit and I recommend. Many important places are walkable from here.

The National Monument on Dam Square is a 1956 cenotaph in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A national Remembrance of the Dead ceremony is held at the monument every year on 4 May to commemorate the casualties of World War II and subsequent armed conflicts.

It’s more like a city center where you can sit down at the foot steps of the monument and see the world go by. You can see some jokers in action as well if you are lucky. All around this place is connected to streets thriving with shops for all sorts of things. And Amsterdam Tram goes pass through nearby too so you can come and go to anywhere you want to..

This is probably one of the most visited spots in Amsterdam. it is in the heart of the city and thus everything around it as turned into being very directed at tourists. its a cool monument. It is worth seeing but i would suggest going very early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

In the city centre you have the national museum. There you have a nice panorama to other buildings and stores. There is also a meet place for free tours.
