At the end of the 70s, chef Pramod Sharma settled in beautiful Amsterdam. He could really put the experiences he had gained as an apprentice in his native town of New Delhi, and during his culinary internship in India and the United States, to use in the Dutch capital. After having worked at an already existing restaurant for a few years he fulfilled his dream in 1981: the opening of Mayur Indian Restaurant. In the Netherlands, Sharma was a pioneer with his Indian restaurant. His philosophy was simple: introducing traditional North-Indian dishes to Dutch guests in the sort of warm atmosphere that makes them feel they are dining in his home. Now, some 40 years later, that philosophy has remained the same. Even now his son has become his number two at the restaurant, they aim to lead Mayur with the same philosophy: Indian food at a high level, relaxed in a magnificent setting where guests imagine themselves in India. Namaste, and welcome at Mayur! CUISINES Indian, Asian. Approx cost for two people Rs 3,500.

What a restaurant.... The lady on the phone kicked me out of my booking because I do no speak Dutch. Unbelievable hospitality reaction. This is a typical Amsterdam restaurant where clients are numbers and not people. Honestly, skip this one.... This is just about profit.

One of the best Indian meals I’ve had and definitely the best meal we had in Amsterdam this weekend. Asked for my dish Madras spicy and it was wonderful. Hot but not sweet. (I hate sweet). And the garlic Nan was divine. Service was excellent.

We were here last night for the exhibition in the Rai, Recommended by other people we met who had dinner here this week, so i had to bring in my team and experience the good reputation myself. The great reputation this restaurant has, its for sure very true. The service, the food and the ambiance were great. I already booked for coming weekend as my partner is visiting me and we are spending the weekend in amsterdam after a tiring Rai. I would to show him my secret place. Thank you Mayur Team for hosting us last night.

Avoid like the plague. On the plus side, the food is pretty decent. However, we were absolutely shocked when we got the bill. The advertised price is already rather high at €40 per person for a menu; water is served as if it's included but it turns out it's not, but ok, that happens at several places. The shock came when we got the bill - we were overcharged more than €15 per person in our group of seven. The manager was called out and explained that 'this is the group price whereas the price on the menu at the entrance is the price per person when dining as a pair', and 'you got substantially more than on the advertised menu' shown at the restaurant entrance. Nowhere was this mentioned as the only menu you get inside the restaurant is one which mentions prices for alcoholic beverages. After complaining we got a part of what we were overcharged back, but every bit of the good taste of the food was washed away by the feeling of being screwed over. I will never go here again and would never recommend anyone going here.
