The hotel was fine. I had paid extra for a room that wasn't in the basement, but they originally tried to put us down there. I went to the front desk and asked to change rooms and they were able to. I'm really glad, because the downstairs room was very damp and smelled of mold. They have us a couple of great restaurant recommendations.

I am a little disappointed because I expected better than that. I spent a lot of time online to find the perfect hotel for our stay - it was our anniversary. And there are things I didn’t like in our room. I didn’t want to make a big deal of it and that's why I did not talk about it before. But I think we have to share our experience. Our basement room lacked light, there were sewage smells in the bathroom (noticeable from the bed!), the shower was leaking. We had the stairs just above our room so we heard people go up and down all the time. And finally, we felt that we slept in a bathroom because we heard water used in the building flowing in the pipes. We heard it so loudly that it seemed all the water was flowing into our room. Otherwise (and thankfully) the bed was very comfortable ! We did not talk about it because we had already spent the first night in the room. I feel that we were given the defective room. Furthermore, I feel like I did not stay in the room I chose.

Great location for the Rijksmuseum, and staff were lovely and friendly. Hotel itself is dated, dusty and lacks any amenities. Rooms are good sized, but filthy and aged - upon check-in we found hairs in the bathtub, the bed and pillows uncomfortable, significant number of stains on the walls and carpet, the bathroom dirty, and the shower/bath itself did not drain. Room cleaning during our time there was inadequate, even noting the cleaner had emptied the bedroom bin but left the bag on the desk. Overall, wouldn’t stay here again nor recommend it to anyone else visiting Amsterdam.
