“Haesje Claes” is a restaurant situated in the historical center of Amsterdam, between the Spui and the Dam square, across from the Amsterdam Museum. The restaurant occupies six, epic buildings, in which the original architectural features such as little steps, corridors and hallways all have been preserved. Likewise, the exterior of the building is a beautiful example of traditional Dutch architecture. All chambers are breathing a century old ambiance, perfectly suited for a comfortable and casual lunch or dinner. The name Haesje Claes originates from the Lady Haesje Claes, who was born in 1520, and was a daughter of a rich salesman. She was also the founder of the “Burgerweeshuis” (orphanage) formerly located in the Amsterdam Museum. The interior is comprised of paintings depicting scenes from the orphanage and many paintings and tiles in the restaurant date back to this time period. Our kitchen is open daily from 12:00 till 22:00. International, European, Central European, Dutch. Approx cost for two people Rs 2500.

Excellent spot for traditional Dutch food. Pictured below is the meatball which I understand is a traditional dish. It was excellent. I also recommend the salted cod. It is actually quite good. The restaurant is very big and full. They churn people through quickly and the food arrived promptly. Perhaps too promptly. The decor is supposed to be traditional Dutch. If you don't think it's tacky, then it is not.

The staff was very friendly and their food was excellent. As with most people in Amsterdam, the staff spoke English very well. The location is in central Amsterdam and they have plenty of seating... although, we were told that we should make a reservation. They have good variety of Dutch dishes and typical dishes with Dutch influences... exactly what I was looking for.

Haesje Claes was a fantastic find! We had reservations here our first night in Amsterdam. They had a large and elaborate menu with tons of local specialties as well as a googly assortment of gluten free options (and the best gluten free bread I've ever had - a tiny little loaf hot from the oven!)

I made a reservation and my cousin got there before me and had no problem getting the table. It's a relatively small restaurant, on a busy weekend I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Our server was super nice and personable! I wasn't sure if we were supposed to have welcome cracklings, but soon saw the other tables getting them, but after I asked our server grabbed us some no problem!

Great local food, nice ambiance and outstanding service.. We spent a nice evening at this restaurant and enjoyed our food.. Lasagna was very tasty and the bread was good too.. There is complementary bread and fried for all tables.. Is certainly expensive but value for money..
